Threonine is an essential amino acid. It is an important residue of many proteins, such as tooth enamel, collagen, and elastin. An important amino acid for the nervous system, that also plays an important role in fat metabolism and prevents fat build-up in the liver. Useful with intestinal disorders and indigestion, it has also been used to alleviate anxiety and mild depression.

Threonine is an immunostimulant and can promote cell immune defence function. It is important for the formation of collagen, elastin, and tooth enamel, and aids liver and lipotropic function when combined with aspartic acid and methionine.
