EO is the ethyl ester of oleic acid. Ethyl oleate is primarily used as a vehicle in parenteral applications such as intramuscular drug administration. Recommended as a solvent for many lipophilic drugs, ethyl oleate is less viscous than certain other nonaqueous solvents such as fixed oils, and is more rapidly absorbed by body tissues.
